Fall 2009
Section 1 ( M 2-2:50) Dr. Angelo Capparella. The theme for this seminar section is "Biological Sciences: Their Contribution to Understanding Environmental Problems and Solutions". The Harvard Medical School Center for Health and the Global Environment (http://chge.med.harvard.edu/), the Consortium for Conservation Medicine (http://www.conservationmedicine.org/), and The Land Institute (http://www.landinstitute.org/) recognize that the human health and resource use consequences of human-caused environmental change is immense, but poorly understood or appreciated. You will explore some of those topics in this section through making two 20-minute oral presentations and weekly one-page writing assignments.
Section 2 (T 2-2:50) Dr. Alan Katz . (FSA 125). Each student will present a 12-15 minute “short” seminar and a 20-25 minute “long” seminar to the class based on material in the published literature (primary journal articles). The topics for the short and long talks can be anything of interest to the student as long as they relate to biology. Students will also write a 10-12-page paper based on their long talk.
Section 3 (W 1-1:50)- Dr. David Rubin.
Section 4 (R 1-1:50) Dr. Kevin Edwards . Edwards section of 304 is a research seminar only. Enrollment is limited to students who have completed at least 2 sem. of research at ISU. The student will present a 40-min seminar on their research, providing substantial background material so that students unfamiliar with the work will be able to judge the talk. For full credit, students must ask questions following other student's presentations.
