Welcome to the School of Biological Sciences
Students who are interested in multiple areas of study may consider completing one or more minor programs. A minor in Biological Sciences will be listed on your transcript and completion of a minor provides evidence to future employers or professional schools of your ability to succeed in more than one discipline. Again, a minor is not required, but should be used to augment your education. Also, for students who are completing the prerequisite courses needed for professional school, but who are not Biological Sciences majors, a minor will indicate a level of commitment to Biological Sciences which can be helpful during the application process.
Our Biological Sciences Minor is structured to ensure you are exposed to a basic core of knowledge over the breadth of biological fields from molecular biology through ecology. This minor is intended for students majoring outside of biological sciences to enhance their experience at ISU by completing course work and acquiring laboratory skills in several topical areas that contribute to the biological sciences. Through your individualized choice of electives, you will find our minor provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum.
In addition to lecture based courses, our minors are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research projects with our faculty. Research projects may count toward elective credit (BSC 290/299), be paid, or be on a voluntary basis. For more information, see Getting Started in Research.
The School of Biological Sciences participates in
two interdisciplinary minors at the University. Course work
offered by the School contributes to the following:
Minor in Cognitive Science and Minor in Environmental
Studies. For further information on these minors and their
advisors, consult the University-Wide Curriculum section
in the Undergraduate Catalog.
